"The Escapists" was an instant hit after its initial release in 2015, which garnered $1.8 million in sales. With such a successful game under their belt, it's no surprise that award-winning international games label Team17 and developer Mouldy Toof decided to create a new installment for the sandbox prison-escape game.
As a matter of fact, Team17 and Mouldy Toof decided to make the announcement in a grand way. "The Escapists 2" was first revealed at TwitchCon in San Diego just last weekend. But what's probably even better is the reveal of the first gameplay teaser that unveiled just this week. The popular sandbox prison-escape series boasts of new features available for lovers of "The Escapists." Just a few things that gamers can expect from "The Escapists 2" include new ways to escape, new items to craft, a new combat system and better character customization.
The multiplayer feature on "The Escapists 2" is a first for the game series, with the ability to drop in and out of play, with split screen and online play for up to four players for co-op and versus modes. "The Escapists 2" gamers can even escape from multi-level prisons by tying sheets together to climb down high windows; indicating that there are new and more creative ways to set themselves free. Evidently, this also means that gamers will have more freedom to create items from scratch: apparently, you can even build a homemade taser in "The Escapists 2!" The new combat system also lets gamers experiment with all kinds of fighting styles, from lock-on targeting, to blocking systems, to light and heavy attacks.
There's also a new graphical style in "The Escapists 2." The new look allows players to experience a more life-like escape experience thanks to a deeper and richer graphic system, adding to the franchise's unique style. "The Escapists 2" gamers can also customize their characters much more easily, with several hairstyles and clothes to choose from. Even better is that "The Escapists 2" players can now have a girl for their avatar! There are also more things to do in "The Escapists 2," with players being able to join a band, learn how to paint and more - allowing players to do fun things to pass the time during incarceration.
"One of my most anticipated features in 'The Escapists 2' is co-op for up to four players. Multiplayer was something we saw our incredible 'The Escapists' community cry out for in the original game and something I'm so excited to see fully realized in the sequel, both local and online," said Debbie Bestwick MBE and CEO if Team17 in a statement. "As a player with quite a few prison escapes under my own belt I can't wait to work together with my friends on escapes." There haven't been any confirmations on the exact "The Escapists 2" release date yet. However, "The Escapists 2" release date is slated for 2017 on Xbox One, PlayStation 4 and PC.
