With September coming to a close, we try to look back at the feasibility of the alleged Windows Surface Phone. In a previous post, it was speculated that the Windows Surface Phone could come out this September though some vouched for a potential October release. The reality of it all is that the device may not come at all in 2016 but 2017 instead.
Back in March, vice president Terry Myerson did confirm that a Windows Surface Phone was in the works. However, he also added that it was not a priority for 2016 and hence likely why the potential release date seems more feasible for 2017.
Rumored Windows Surface Phone features ramp up
With the given time, expect a lot of new features and specs coming out regarding the Windows Surface Phone. At the top of the list is the potential processor that it may come with. It could be either a Qualcomm Snapdragon 830 chipset or higher though it seems to make more sense to see the device relying on a Kaby Lake chipset.
With Intel currently rolling out the Kaby Lake processors, it is more likely that the Windows Surface Phone could come out with such. Aside from the SoC, the Surface Phone may come out with 4 GB of RAM and 64 GB of internal storage.
Fingerprint scanner on OLED display?
Latest rumors suggest that the Windows Surface Phone could come out with an OLED display and have some integrated fingerprint scanning feature. A sensor will likely be found underneath the display where will be tasked to recognize the finger of potential owners.
Three Windows Surface Phone variants coming?
The specs mentioned above for the Windows Surface Phone could be more or less the basic one with word that there will be three variants coming out. Other than the 3 GB RAM and 32 GB storage, succeeding variants could be 6 GB RAM with 128 GB storage and 8 GB RAM with 512 GB storage.
There is no word yet on potential pricing but a speculative guess would likely see the Windows Surface Phone priced starting at $400. Stay tuned to Game & Guide for more Windows Surface Phone news!
