There has been quite a lot of versions of Robin Hood on screen recently, with the last one in 2010, which starred Russell Crowe. That, however, is not a reason for another one to be made. The latest version is reportedly titled "Robin Hood: Origins" and is already in pre-production stage.
Screen Rant reported that "Robin Hood: Origins" has a fairly impressive lineup, with Taron Egerton as Robin Hood, Jamie Foxx as Little John and Eve Hewson as Maid Marion. It gets even more interesting as "Fifty Shades of Grey" star Jamie Dornan is in talks to be one of the Merry Men. Dornan has been eyed to play Will Scarlet; one of the Merry Men who is usually portrayed to be younger and more rambunctious compared to his crew. Although every Robin Hood movie would have a different take on Scarlet, he is always portrayed as a good fighter and a loyal companion.
In the case of "Robin Hood: Origins" however, Will Scarlet will be depicted as Maid Marian's husband who will later be irked at his wife's admiration for Robin Hood. Another description of Will Scarlet says that the member of the Merry Men is more hot-headed, has a knack for fine clothes and is the best swordsman in the group. This take on the character, however, will twist what fans know about the character since being Marion's jealous husband, he will have some beef with Robin Hood.
After landing a very coveted role in the "Fifty Shades" series, this will be one of Dornan's most significant gigs. His portrayal of Scarlet will get him a lot of attention for everyone to see if he can do more than his mysterious and straight character portrayal of Christian Grey. This could also be his opportunity to convince viewers of his acting talent as "Robin Hood: Origins" will give him an opportunity to showcase his versatility.
The Hollywood Reporter said that aside from this, Dornan has recently starred in "Anthropoid" and will be seen in "Jadotville," a Netflix movie which will be out in October. As of now, Jamie Dornan has been quite busy filming successively the individual installments in the "Fifty Shades" franchise and is about to begin filming "Untogether" with Ben Mendelsohn.
