Netflix's Marvel superhero flick "The Punisher" is currently in the works but not much is known about the Jon Bernthal-starred series. Recently, the series has enlisted Ben Barnes ("The Chronicles of Narnia: Prince Caspian") to play the potential villain for the pilot season, TVLine reported.
Specific details of Ben Barnes' character in "The Punisher" have yet to be revealed, but there are reports suggesting that the English actor will play Bobby Saint. The character appeared in the 2004 film version of "The Punisher," which starred Thomas Jane as the titular character. As explained by Screen Rant, Bobby Saint was the youngest member of the crime family, the Saints. Bobby was killed early on in the movie as a result of a setup organized by the FBI led by undercover agent, Frank Castle.
Since Bobby only appeared for a brief moment in the 2004 film, Screen Rant speculates that Netflix's "The Punisher" might bring to light this character, who is only known to do anything it takes to impress his father. There are also reports that the series will introduce Microchip as the villain for season 1 and Ben Barnes could also step in to play the role. According to Nerdist, there was an Easter egg for Microchip at the end of "Daredevil" season 2. Microchip was Frank Castle's ally who turned into one of his enemies. Then again, Ben Barnes might play a different character, and fans will just have to wait for more updates on this field.
Meanwhile, a release date for "The Punisher" has not been announced. Netflix is scheduled to release two Marvel series in 2017, "Iron Fist" and "The Defenders," before bringing back new seasons of "Daredevil" and "Jessica Jones," which should be sometime in 2018. The pilot season of "The Punisher" is likely to be released also in 2018, but according to Den of Geek, a late 2017 release might also be possible if casting for the series has started.
