Play 'Donkey Kong,' 'Pac-Man' in a Tiny MAME Device That Fits in Your Pocket

Size doesn't matter when it comes to this tiny MAME device that fits in your pocket. Adafruit's Phillip Burgess recently changed the MAME (Multiple Arcade Machine Emulator) game when he created what looks like the world's smalles MAME cabinet.

According to Engadget, Burgess' tiny MAME is powered by a Raspberry Pi Zero computer, 0.96 inch RGB OLED displays, and an I2S class D audio amplifier. The report states that the tiny MAME device was a "spontaeous weekend project" that resulted to the 67.2 mm tall, 33.6 mm wide and 35.8mm machine.

Burgess admits that they are capable of downsizing the tiny MAME device that fits in your pocket. It can currently play "Pac-Man," "Donkey Kong," and "Xevious."

CNet reports that the tiny MAME device that fits in your pocket is currently not for sale, as the project was just a random thing Burgess wanted to explore. He did, however, share his process through Adafruit's official blog. Burgess admitted that it was quite tedious to build, given the size and is only "marginally fun to play."

For those of you who aren't familiar, Adafruit is a New York open-source hardware company founded back in 2005 by MIT engineer Limor Fried, who is also known in the I.T. world as Lady Ada Lovelace. Fried rose to popularity as the fist female engineer to grace the cover of WIRED Magazine.

Adafruit may be best known for creating the NeoPixel, a brand of individually-addressable red-green-blue (RGB) LED. Back in 2015, Fried told Triple Pundit that "The things makers, hackers, artists and engineers build on the weekends are what we’ll all be using in our daily lives in a few years."

Does this mean that Burgess' weekend project in the form of a tiny MAME device that fits in your pocket may be the next "Pokemon GO?" We'll never know unless they try. In the meantime, check out the video below to get to know the Burgess-created device.
