'Star Wars: Rogue One' Release Date, Latest News & Updates: Movie Whistling A New Tune; Producers Replace Composer 3 Months Before Worldwide Release

"Star Wars: Rogue One" is set to release in December 2016. However, the film producers decided to replace the composer. Alexandre Desplat exited production and was replaced by Michael Giacchino. The creators of "Star Wars: Rogue One" are apparently intent in making a great film by substituting an Oscar-winning composer with another.

The Hollywood Reporter stated that "Star Wars: Rogue One" went through extensive reshoots in the summer of 2016. Writer Tony Gilroy was compelled to be more involved in the filmmaking process during the shoot and postproduction, while Disney and Lucasfilm worked to properly set the story and tone of the movie. The said "Star Wars: Rogue One" reshoots allegedly caused conflicts in the schedule of Desplat, who can no longer participate on the newly set dates. Disney and Lucasfilm subsequently replaced him with Giacchino.

Alexandre Desplat is an Oscar winner for his work in "The Grand Budapest Hotel." Michael Giacchino, has worked with Disney and its several divisions through the years. The new "Star Wars: Rogue One" composer has scored in films like "The Incredibles," "Inside Out," "The Star Trek" reboot, "Cars 2," "Up," and "Ratatouille," among others. The musical composer also has experience in live-action films like "John Carter" and "Tomorrowland" and will feature his debut with Marvel Studios in "Doctor Strange."

Giacchino is a "Star Wars" fan and is a friend of director J.J. Abrams, whom he also worked with in the past. Giacchino actually appeared as a storm trooper in "Star Wars: The Force Awakens." It is still uncertain whether he will have a role in "Star Wars: Rogue One." Overall, the addition of Giacchino, who is also an Oscar Winner for his work in "Up," means that the makers of "Star Wars: Rogue One" will not compromise in any way and plans to feature a great movie.

Gizmodo wrote that it is quite controversial for Disney and Lucasfilm to suddenly change the movie composer just three months before "Star Wars: Rogue One" launches. Desplat already did work on the music, so Giacchino may continue what his predecessor has accomplished or begin from scratch. "Star Wars: Rogue One" is set to release on Dec. 16, 2016. More updates and details on "Star Wars: Rogue One" are expected soon.
