Twitter enters the world of Apple TV, Xbox One and Amazon Fire TV. Users may now see latest tweets and watch live NFL and other live streaming footage from these devices.
Twitter also launched an app for Amazon's voice platform Alexa that already includes Uber, Domino's, Kayak, Fitbit, CNET, BBC, CNN, ESPN, Food Network, GE appliances for voice-controlled kitchens, and smart home device makers.
Twitter is expanding its horizons beyond phones and PCs. The popular social networking site is launching an app on Apple TV, Xbox One and Amazon Fire TV, allowing users to view Twitter content using the apps on the aforementioned devices, Tech Crunch reported.
This will include live streams of 10 NFL Thursday Night Football games and other live streaming footage from Twitter. Apple TV users can view live streaming, top tweets, Vines, Periscopes, and other live streaming content.
In other news, Twitter recently launched an Alexa app, which functions like a VA following commands and allows its users to listen to the latest tweets through an Echo speaker. This is also expected to boost advertising for the social networking site as it forms more partnerships that will expand its audience for watching live events, such as the Super Bowl, the Olympics, or the election.
A Twitter account, cable, or satellite subscriptions will no longer be necessary to access HD Streams, which is beneficial for the logged-out users. Twitter added the app to maximize Alexa's potential while others still hope that the company will also make an app that will enable them to edit tweets with voice activation.
Meanwhile, Amazon accidentally announced a cheaper Alexa-powered Echo Dot. The speaker was launched in March and originally costs $89.99 but the now-deleted tweet announced the same device for only $49.99. Afterwards, Amazon announced that the rapid growth of the Alexa "app store".
The company said that the voice-activated app has grown by 3 times since June, with over 1,000 skills or optional features that can be added to the app. Developers can also use Amazon's Alexa Skills Kit (ASK) and Alexa Voice Service (AVS) to integrate other apps and services to the platform.
