Forget Stephen Curry, Kevin Durant and Russell Westbrook's possibility of signing in for Cleveland Cavaliers in 2017 when they land in free agency. There are more viable and realistic options for the Cavs to beef up for 2016-17 NBA regular season and prepare defending their title.
While Curry, Durant and Westbrook are fairy tale additions, it is very unlikely that their respective teams will let them go without a fight. The trio are cornerstones of offensive prowess so Cavaliers need to scrub free agency for other potential candidates that can strengthen the already formidable lineup. IBTimes lists top players to become free agents in 2017 and LeBron James is ironically one of them.
Starting the exploratory ideas with highly-coveted Blake Griffin of Los Angeles Clippers is not a bad road for Cavs. Several squads are in waiting mode for Griffin and the high-flying machine will have a hard time choosing come 2017. Griffin is one of the most prolific scorer in the league with 21.5 points per game average, 9.6 rebounds, 4 assists and 1 steal.
Now LeBron James can think of reunification with Dwayne Wade. Fans think that the Chicago Bulls shooting guard steps down from the elite to simply a very good player but he still has shots left in him that Cavs can squeeze.
There will be no problem with adjustments either because Wade is vocal about potentials of rejoining James since signing with Chicago Bulls. According to Basketball Reference stats, Wade's 13-year career yields 23.7 points per game average with 4.8 rebounds and 5.8 assists.
Kyle Lowry is another good option for Cavs although it can result to replication of point guard positions. At any rate, Lowry's game-setting style is proven last NBA season after helping Toronto Raptors to 56 wins. Lowry pegs 21.2 points per game average. Another good thing about Lowry is high tendency to pass the ball and not force it into the basket as proven by his career stats of 5.7 assists.
