Bethesda has been defeated in their motion to encourage gamers to create more content for "Fallout 4" and "Skyrim." In a statement published on their official website, the game developer claims that Sony has prohibited user mods in the upcoming RPG, as well as Special Edition of "Skyrim" arriving next month.
The Verge reports that as per Bethesda's statement, the studio has been in talks with Sony for months, but the latter informed them that "they will not approve user mods the way they should work: where users can do anything they want for either Fallout 4 or Skyrim Special Edition."
This is a huge disappointment for Bethesda, as their goals for both "Fallout 4" and "The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim" were really to enable players to create their own content and expand the universe of the game with their very own creativity. According to Polygon, Bethesda already announced the mod features of the upcoming games for both PlayStation 4 and Xbox One, but those on the Microsoft console have been enjoying the feature for longer.
Sony has not released any statements whatsoever about their decision to not allow mod support for the PlayStation 4 version of the game. Microsoft's Xbox One, which outsold the PS4 back in July, however has taken to Twitter to highlight their console's support for mods on "Fallout 4."
Directed by Todd Howard "The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim" is an RPG that is playable from first or third-person perspective. While it is not a sequel of 2006's "Oblivion," the game is set 200 years following the events of "Oblivion." The game was originally released in 2011, with a Legendary Edition in 2013. The Special Edition is set to debut this October 28.
Meanwhile, "Fallout 4" is also directed by Howard and is set in a post-apocalyptic Bostom, Massachussetts in 2287 following a nuclear war. The main character emerges from the nuclear bunk Vault 111 and is tasked to explore the world while avoiding enemies and obstacles. The game arrives to PlayStation 4, Xbox One, and Windows PC on November 10.
