Horror movie franchise "Insidious" is not taking a break as there will be another installment coming next year. "Insidious: Chapter 4" was already confirmed to be happening and production has reportedly started.
So far, there are no details as to what the sequel will bring to the table but according to The Wrap, the upcoming movie will welcome back Lin Shaye's character, paranormal investigator Elise Rainier. Fans can also mark the date on the calendar as "Insidious: Chapter 4" has a pegged release date of Oct. 20, 2017.
Although there are still no official details surrounding the plot, "Insidious: Chapter 4" is assumed to feature storylines between the first and third films. This was confirmed by prequel writer, Leigh Whannell during an interview with WeGotThisCovered last year. When asked whether "Chapter 4" will pick up after "Chapter 3," Whannell answered, "I don't know. I haven't really thought about it yet. But for the purposes of this interview, I'll say that I'd like to explore the time between this film and the first film."
This would mean that the next chapter in the story might feature events following "Insidious: Chapter 4" but not before Elise met the Lamberts in the original movie. CinemaBlend also speculates that the upcoming film will have a modern setting and creators will most likely put an end to Elise's story. This would give the franchise a new future with new characters and kinds of entities to deal with.
Meanwhile, the folks behind the production have also been confirmed. Adam Robitel, who directed "The Taking of Deborah Logan" will take the director's seat for "Insidious: Chapter 4." Whannell is still in-charge of the script while Jason Blum ("Purge," "Ouija"), James Wan ("The Conjuring") and Oren Peli ("Paranormal Activity") are producing. The horror from "Insidious: Chapter 4" will be unleashed on Oct. 20, 2017. Watch the teaser from Blumhouse featuring tarot-reading Shaye below.
