A spinoff for The CW's "Supernatural" has been rumored for quite some time. Last year, network president Mark Pedowitz hinted that he'd love to have a spinoff for the series. Just recently, Pedowitz reiterated what he said and with rumors about actor Jared Padalecki leaving after the upcoming "Supernatural" Season 12, fans believe that the fantasy horror TV series would definitely have that spinoff.
In a recent interview with TVLine, Pedowitz was asked about the possibility of spinoff after "Supernatural" Season 12, to which he replied, "It's still a priority. It just hasn't happened. I leave it to the studio [Warner Bros. Television]. When they're ready to do it, we'll be glad to have it developed." Whether or not this plan will come to fruition remains to be seen, but there are already speculations that villains of the series, Castiel in particular, will get to have the spotlight in the spinoff.
Castiel, played by Misha Collins, is one of the favorite characters in "Supernatural" Season 12 and fans have long wanted for him to star in a spinoff. The fan-favorite has proven to be an interesting character and fans would like to see him take the spotlight should a spinoff be made. Apart from Castiel, it's also likely that Lucifer (Mark Pellegrino) will have his own series. According to Yibada, there are fans who would like to see Lucifer and Amara (Emily Swallow) being the lead stars of a "Supernatural" spinoff.
Meanwhile, Castiel could also be one of the villains Winchester brothers, Sam (Padalecki) and Dean (Jensen Ackles), will deal with in the upcoming season. "Supernatural" Season 12 showrunner Andrew Dabb hinted that the brothers will have a face-off with multiple enemies, and it would include people they thought they could trust.
Although Dabb didn't specifically refer to Castiel, speculation is rife that it might very well be the angel as he will be the center of one episode in "Supernatural" Season 12. Fans will just have to wait for the premiere of "Supernatural" Season 12 on Oct. 13, 9 p.m. ET on The CW to find out.
