"The Walking Dead: Season 3" will debut this November, as announced by developer Telltale Games at its PAX panel just recently. Season 3 will be set a few years after season 2's timeline and will follow the story of Clementine and a new character, Javier.
Despite a huge difference in the past lives of Clementine and Javier, they are united by their struggle to protect their loved ones. In reconciling this, executive producer Kevin Boyle says that "Javier will begin to unravel the mystery of who Clementine has become, as her story intersects with his."
A Season Pass Disc will be released for the PS4 and Xbox one, but a buyer needs an internet connection to fully enjoy the game. This is because such disc only has the first episode and the rest has to be downloaded from the internet. The third season will be featuring the same formula as with the past games in the series, as said by Job Stauffer of Telltale in an interview with Gamespot. While it has established itself as a distinct studio which adapts very recognizable elements into video games, its framework has become well worn.
Stauffer also says that the familiar framework and format in its games is actually intentional and is their approach in making their games as engaging as they can be. For the games that they are making, they do not see them as adventure games as they always strive to find better game mechanics.
He also adds that they subscribe to the same philosophy as with TV and film since they sort their game content in the same fashion. Their studio carries the distinction of producing for Marvel and DC, as well as some sci-fi, post apocalyptic drama, action, comedy, and a whole lot more. Their innovation in game design happens with storytelling where they have one or two playable characters and players seeing different sides of the story.
As for this upcoming Walking Dead game, they chose to have two playable characters and will serve as a continuation of the first two seasons. This new game could also be a new beginning for anyone who has never played the first two Walking Dead games.
