BioWare Asks Fans Whether Mass Effect 4 Should Be Prequel Or Sequel

BioWare, the developers of Mass Effect, want to know from fans if the next Mass Effect 4 game should be a prequel or a sequel to the earlier versions.

The question was posed by Casey Hudson, executive producer of the Mass Effect series who tweeted on Nov. 19, "Parsing through your thoughts on the next #ME game. Would you be more interested in a game that takes place before the trilogy, or after?"

The first game is set in the year 2183 and a prequel to it must deal with Mass Relays and the Turians and the citadel. A sequel will have to deal with the different endings of Mass Effect 3.

Eurogamer says this is not the first time that BioWare is asking fans for their thoughts. This only shows that the game development is still in its infancy.

The next Mass Effect is being developed by BioWare Montreal rather than BioWare Edmonton. It will be running on DICE's Frostbite engine and utilize systems in development for next year's Dragon Age 3.

"While [Mass Effect 4] will be very respectful of the heritage built over the course of the first three games, with the original trilogy now concluded and the switch over to a new engine, we are exploring new directions, both on the gameplay and story fronts," said Yanick Roy, studio director BioWare Montreal, earlier this month.

"You can still expect the pillars the franchise is known for to be fully intact though, including diverse alien races, a huge galaxy to explore, and of course rich, cinematic storytelling."

Commander Shepard will not be a part of the storyline, and BioWare wants a new hero for the game, PlayStation Universal reported.

The 'Omega' DLC pack for Mass Effect 3 will be available on Nov. 27 on Xbox 360 and PC, and on Nov. 28 on PlayStation 3.
