Apple Is Developing A Potential SnapChat Killer; First Version To Debut In iOS 10 Update

There are rumors that Apple is working on a video feature on iOS that will compete with Snapchat. Apple allegedly plans to make its devices more social and that the first version of the new feature will launch with the iOS 10 update.

Apple reportedly plans to boost its presence in the mobile software industry by featuring new apps and services. The first feature is said to launch before the end of 2016 in iOS 10. Meanwhile, the new iPhones in 2017 are said to showcase new camera and social apps that will contend with existing messenger services. Apple reportedly plans to make iMessage more appealing by introducing an independent camera app that will entice current users of Snapchat, Facebook Messenger and WhatsApp.

Bloomberg reported that the basic idea of the Apple video editing and sharing app is to let users shoot, edit and upload content within one minute. The app is being designed to allow single-hand mode. The video editor is currently being tweaked as a standalone app, although it may be integrated into the native camera app of Apple devices.

BGR revealed that in 2017, Apple may provide the standalone camera app that will allow its users to record, edit and share videos conveniently and quickly. The app, which currently remains unnamed, is intended to compete with Snapchat, which has over 150 million daily active users. These users spend about 30 minutes on Snapchat on a daily basis.

The same team that worked on Final Cut Pro and iMovie is said to be developing the new app, with Joe Weil, co-developer of KnowMe, leading the project. Another team is allegedly working on new social features for iPad and iPhone. There is also a privacy team that assesses the privacy implications of an adjusted social sharing feature within iOS, before apps can be rolled out.

Apple plans to have features that suggest social actions to users so they can easily get in touch with contacts. Apple also wants to consolidate communications between users of the iPad and iPhone. It is uncertain whether the new developing features will arrive as standalone apps or included in a future iOS release. However, the video sharing and social apps may be canceled if these do not meet Apple's requirements.
