'Tom Clancy’s Jack Ryan' Air Date, Spoilers, News & Update: John Krasinski Says Series Plays Out Like Film; Will Tackle Terrorism

There's much buzz surrounding John Krasinski nowadays, especially after the 36-year actor shredded for his role in this year's Michael Bay-directed and produced "13 Hours: The Secret Soldiers of Benghazi." He's not only made his directorial debut in "The Hollars," which opens tomorrow, but is also starring in the upcoming Amazon series, "Jack Ryan."

Krasinski's performance in "13 Hours" has made him a bonafide leading man, which has been a long time coming given that he was known for his comedic chops in "The Office." If that sounds familiar, you're probably thinking of Chris Prat, who went from "Parks and Recreation" to "Guardians of the Galaxy" and of course, "Jurassic World."

But for Krasinski, the actor is taking his time, as the upcoming "Jack Ryan" isn't only an iconic role to play, he has some footsteps to follow. The role had been portrayed by several actors before him in film and television, including Alec Baldwin, Harrison Ford, Ben Affleck, and most recently, Chris Pine. We recently reported that a series order has been rolled out by Amazon for "Jack Ryan." The series' showrunner and executive producer is Carlton Cuse, who is best known for his work on "Lost" and "Bates Motel." Krasinski will serve as producer as well.

Krasinski just sat down with Collider to talk about the new project, which he says plays out like film instead of a series. The actor explained that today's entertainment landscape sees a fine line between TV show and movies, which is why he thinks it's a "movie that’s being told in 10 parts."

This sounds very exciting, as the actor also shared to The Wrap that as the show follows "Jack Ryan" as he comes across a pattern in terrorist communication that places him strategically in a position to prevent this global attack. Krasinski added that the series will definitely tackle terrorism on a real-world scale, with topics such as ISIS. "Jack Ryan" will begin production this January and will hopefully arrive on Amazon mid 2017.
