Fans of the USA Network hit "Mr. Robot" would be glad to know that the first ever mobile game based on the Sam Esmail TV series has arrived. The game is developed by Night School Studio, who is also responsible for this year's 2.5D graphic adventure, "Oxenfree," which was released on PC, OS X, and Xbox One, in January and PlayStation 4 this May.
The game is titled "Mr. Robot: 1.51exfiltrati0n," and is published by Telltale Games, which also developed "CSI," "The Walking Dead," "Back to the Future: The Game," "The Wolf Among Us," and "Batman: The Telltale Series," among many others. IGN reports that the upcoming mobile game based on "Mr. Robot" is set in the world of the series, and will begin with the main character answering the phone that belongs to the same hacker group in the show, society.
In "Mr. Robot: 1.51exfiltrati0n," players will access the E Corp Messaging App that will enable them to communicate with several characters, some who are already appearing on the series. Players will also talk to these characters via text to find out how to obtain data that society needs to hack into Evil Corp. The game will also play out in real time within five days, during which players must use the chat client to get instructions on how to aid society's hacking plan.
"Mr. Robot: 1.51exfiltrati0n" is a collaboration between Night School Studio and Esmail, together with series writer Kor Adana. CNBC reports that according to Night School Studio co-founder Sean Krankel, the game is an avenue for fans of the USA Network series to "meaningfully interact" with characters in "Mr. Robot," enabling them to "truly [feel] like they're joining the hack at a critical moment in the TV series."
"Mr. Robot: 1.51exfiltrati0n" is now available for both iOS and Android, and has a price tag of $2.99. Head over to the iOS App Store or Google Play store for more. Meanwhile, "Mr. Robot" is unsurprisingly returning for a third season, most likely due next summer.
