Four years had passed since the London 2012 Olympics and now here comes Rio 2016. The whole competition will take place between 32 venues in Rio de Janeiro. Belo Horizonte, Brasilia, Manaus, Salvador and Sao Paulo are the scheduled cities for the football matches.
According to BBC News, games will officially start on August 5 and will run until August 21. But the first event actually happened was the women's football match between Sweden and South Africa.
Main Events
If synchronised swimming is your thing, it will begin on August 14 at 11:00 Rio time (15:00 BST). On that same day will also be the finals of the men's Greco-Roman wrestling, which can be an option. The track and field athletics is set to start on August 12, and will end on the last day, August 21 together with the men's marathon. Men's 100m final will be at 22:25 Rio time on August 14 (that's 02:25 BST on 15 August) while the women's 100m final will start a day earlier on August 13 at 22:35 Rio time on (that's 02:35 BST on 14 August).
Paralympic Schedule
Paralympics is an international multi-sport event, where athletes participating are with a range of physical disabilities. The official schedule is on September 7 to 18 .
Will The Brazil President Be Present?
On a different article by BBC News, Dilma Rousseff, the country's President will not be around on the event as she was suspended. The President is set to face impeachment over allegations that she manipulated the government budget which she denied.
Meet The Two Mascots
Vinicius is the official Olympics mascot. He is named after the Brazil's most loved poet and playwright Vinicius de Moraes. His image is based from the different animals found in Brazil.
Tom, on the other hand, is the Paralympics mascot. He is named after Vinicius de Moraes' writing patner, Tom Jobim. He is then represents the mixture of flora and fauna in Brazil.
