It didn't come as a surprise when Larry Hryb a.k.a Major Nelson announced on twitter that the "Xbox One price" is getting a price drop for a limited time only.
According to reports, Microsoft is offering the 500GB Xbox One console for $249; a mere half the price since the older console was first launched. It was actually expected, specially now that the Xbox One S is coming to stores this August.
In his twitter announcement, Hryb said "Starting today and for a limited time in the US: All 500GB Xbox One Consoles will be $249." The deal includes a game bundle of your choice from titles; Forza Motorsport 6, Gears of War: Ultimate Edition, Rare Replay, Rise of the Tomb Raider or Rise of the Tomb Raider."
According to Arstechnica, this will be the third time that Microsoft dropped its price on the Xbox One console in a span of just two months. Prior to the E3 2016 event, they reduced the "Xbox One price" to $299 and on the E3 2016 event, the further dropped the price to $279.
Is this a desperate move by Microsoft? It could be and it could be not. Apparently, they want the older version to be fairly out from the market before their release the new Xbox One S console.
It's not all bad as this is also the perfect time for gamers to take advantage of the situation and get themselves the unit for half the price. Interestingly, many players still prefer the older version and if they can help it, they will try to buy the unit along with the free game bundle that comes with it.
