It is now confirmed that "The Vampire Diaries " Season 8 will be the last for the show.
Gizmodo reports that "The Vampire Diaries " Season 8 creator Julie Plec announced at Comic-Con 2016 panel that "The Vampire Diaries " Season 8 will definitely be the last.
“We all have discussed it and we’ve made the decision that this is it,” the "The Vampire Diaries " Season 8 said. “This is going to be the final season of The Vampire Diaries. It’s bittersweet and emotional and we’re all going to be crying in a minute. It’s been a beautiful run.”

Less than a week after Kat Graham (Bonnie Bennett) announced "The Vampire Diaries " Season 8 would be her last, Ian Somerhalder (Damon Salvatore) delivered the news that it would actually be the end of the show.
Appearing at the WalkerStalkerCon fan convention in Nashville back in April, "The Vampire Diaries " Season 8 Ian Somerhalder told fans in attendance that the show is officially moving toward a finale. “We have decided to do one last season to really do the story justice,” the "The Vampire Diaries " Season 8 actor said.

“At this very moment, it is expected that Nina will be a part of the show on a very limited basis,” an insider told Hollywood Life. “There is still tons of time to figure it all out and deal with proper scheduling, but it is going to be a less is more type of situation to finish her story.”
