The ongoing San Diego Comic Con (SDCC) is proving to be an exhilarating experience for attendees, as more and more details about upcoming films are being unveiled in during the event. Take "Star Wars: Rogue One," the Gareth Edwards-directed upcoming film from Disney, which unveiled a new character from the film on the first day of SDCC.
According to Cinemablend, the studio has uncovered a new character in Edrio Two Tubes, a Rebellion ally from the Yar Togna planet, which was ravaged by the Empire. Check out the images below.
Edrio Two Tubes is described as a "mercenary pilot" who teams up with Benthic, his eggmate, to fight the Empire that ravaged his homeland. Edrio and Benthic also allied with Saw Gerrera, who will be played by the Academy Award-winning Forest Whitaker.
"Star Wars: Rogue One" director Gareth Edwards recently sat down with Slashfilm to talk about how they went about filming the upcoming movie. He said that it was a challenging experience in terms of having to do it in a different way, which would result to an alien "Star Wars" movie that would not relate to the original films, or having to copy what George Lucas did with "Star Wars: The Force Awakens," which was the highest grossing film of 2015. According to Edwards, they had to strike a balance, to create their own identity in terms of filmmaking, which maintaining the "Star Wars" identity.
But is introducing a new set of characters going to confuse the fans of the "Star Wars" franchise? Edwards said, "This has got to be characters that you care about and there’s an opportunity to create new people and events that pull you in, so hopefully the goal is that you come to the film for all the reasons that we love 'Star Wars' and you get sucked in and start to care about the new people."
"Star Wars: Rogue One" opens in theaters on December 16.
