The empire is growing. Rapper and actor Scott Ramon Seguro Mescudi, better known as Kid Cudi, is the newest addition to "Empire" season 3, where he will play an independent rapper who is rival to Bryshere Y. Gray's Hakeem Lyon.
According to Entertainment Weekly, the 32-year old has just finished filming his first episode of "Empire" season 3, and has taken to Twitter to share just how thrilled he is to be part of the FOX series. There's no further details about his character at the moment, except that his name will be "Gram."

Cudi isn't a stranger to television, as he made his debut on the HBO series "How to Make It in America," playing Domingo Dean. He has also appeared in FOX's "Brooklyn Nine-Nine" as the evasive perp Dustin Whitman, "Scorpion," where he played Peyton Temple, "Comedy Bang! Bang!" and "Talking Dead." He has also appeared in films "Entourage" and "Needs for Speed."
Back in May, showrunner Ilene Chaiken spoke to The Hollywood Reporter to share some thoughs on how "Empire" season 3 will play out following the events of the second season finale. She said that moving forward, Tariq Cousins (Morocco Omari), the FBI agent who is out to get Lucious Lyons (Terrence Howard), will play a bigger part in the show, alongside Shine Johnson (Xzibit).
According to Chaiken, both Tariq and Shine are "going to feature in major storylines" in "Empire" season 3, describing it as a "Godfather-style opus of crime and hip-hop." She assured fans that the show will stay true to its musical roots, but warns that Lucious will be having a tough time dealing with some yet-unresolved issues.
Fans will have to wait and see how Lucious will fare facing his demons when "Empire" season 3 returns to FOX on September 21 at 9 p.m.
