BlazeGames is preparing a new mobile game that could give “Clash of Clans” a run for its money with “Battle Champs”. Though we have seen a lot of independent developers trying to overthrow the popular game, this initiative has all the tools to become one.
First off, BlazeGames reunites two legendary names from the world of Japanese role-playing games (JRPG). They are Akihiko Yoshida and Hitoshi Sakimoto. With a designer (Yoshida) and a video game composer (Sakimoto) coming in with respectable credibility, the mobile game could be something worth checking out.
“Battle Champs” will be ambitious, cute and carry Japanese aesthetics
A first look into “Battle Champs” calls to mind the same game play that “Clash of Clans” calls for. Players will need to build a secure base which can be attacked by other players at any time.
Players will have to stock up their resources and apply the necessary upgrades as they expand their base with the “champs” obviously at the heart of it all. They are the ones sent out to lead their armies to battle as they map out their logistics against other bases.
From fantasy to steampunk world
So far, the game itself is fairly similar to clash and clans. But a notable difference is the game setting. Yoshida is credited with the shift from traditional fantasy to a steampunk world.
“There were people who were there originally and they had a vision for what the world was supposed to be, but it was overlapping quite a bit with what I had already done previously… so I was very selfish and decided that I was going to suggest various different changes from what it originally was, and they went along with that,” said Yoshida per IGN.
“Battle Champs” comes with various options to play it. That includes the story and PVP modes. As far as the difference with “Clash of Clans”, BlazeGame offers one striking feature in “Giants battles”.
This involves an unlimited number of players working together to take on towering beasts. There will be new evil bosses daily and the unit load-out for these battles will likely be very different from other modes.
“Battle Champs” is available for Android and iOS, a game that can hopefully recreate its success in Japan better known as “Little Noah”.
