"Pokemon Go" launched to massive success, bringing people together to virtually catch Pokemon in the real world, meet new friends, and actually improve one's health (from running after these monsters). The game, that has launched in most regions of the world, has been proven to be a very worthwhile endeavor for Niantic Labs, who have now spoken up about what's to come as the game receives new updates.
In a conversation with Game Informer, Niantic Labs CEO John Hanke shared that they treat the newly launched game as an "ever-evolving game," which means that fans should expect new features to come along in the foreseeable future. Hanke admitted that the game had exceeded their expectations in terms of its success (despite it being released in only the U.S., New Zealand, and Australia for the meantime), and moving forward, they are looking to having more features in the game, including trading and upgrades to PokeStops and gyms.
In addition, "Pokemon Go" developers are committed to having "new clients and server iterations pushed bi-weekly" as their "general rule of thumb." According to Hanke, they are looking to have regular updates, while some not major, to support the game and the mass of people playing it.
"There’s a wide variety of things that we want to do in the game, things on our roadmap, but in the near term, trading is something that’s not in the game right now that we’re committed to adding to the game," Hanke explained. "So that will be I think fairly soon in the future."
Hanke also shared that he, along with "Pokemon Go" developers are looking to modify and improve PokeStops and gyms to enable gamers to work more collaboratively and make it an even more interactive game, from participating in gym battles to training a Pokemon. Fans will have to wait and see for further announcements on upcoming updates to make "Pokemon Go" an even better experience.
