“Marco Polo” season 2 is coming to a close and the immediate concern of many is on whether the cast will be back for a third season. There is no certainty for now but it may all depend on how well the viewers took the season 2 finale.
The gist of season 2 is that with great power will ultimately be costly. Such was the fate of Kublai Khan (Benedict Wong) who may have ended up everything as a result of a new power crossing the Mongol Empire.
Stomaching Ruthlessness
Season 2 of “Marco Polo” focused a lot on doing what is right and honorable along with tough decisions. A highlight of that was when Kublai informed his wife “Empress Chabi (Joan Chen)” of not being able to make hard choices. That claim would eventually be seen as a misleading claim, tied up to a stable boy raping Princess Kokachin (Zhu Zhu) per Screen Rant.
Tied up with the motive to secure her family’s legacy, Kokachin ended up killing herself rather than live a life of guilt. With her out, the question now is how Marco Polo (Lorenzo Richelmy) and Prince Jingim (Remy Hii) will deal with her loss – possibly in season 3.
Prester John focus?
Season 3 of “Marco Polo” could see focus on John Prester, someone considered more of a legend than a person. He is well-known throughout Asia and establishing him as the next possible threat to Kublai Khan should be pretty interesting to ponder.
John Prester could be an interesting adversary as the series offers a better take on his personality. His story has led treasure hunters and adventurers alike to discover the riches of his supposed kingdom so integrating this into a possible “Marco Polo” third season will be an interesting take.
Right now, the first thing that needs to be answered is whether there will be a season 3. If ever “Marco Polo” season 3 materializes, such is expected in 2017.
