Hasbro has a number of new Yo-Kai Watch toys in anticipation of its new games and second season. The toys will be available ta San Diego Comic-Con in July 2016.
A vinyl Dianyan figure with five special medals will be offered on the San Diego Comic-Con show floor from July 21 to 24, 2016. The figure can unlock a rare Yo-Kai in the 3DS game, allowing players to recruit the character into their teams. The exclusive figure will be priced at $29.99. After the big event, some of the Yo-Kai Watch toys will still be limitedly available on the Hasbro website.
Licensing.biz explained that Hasbro's Yo-Kai Watch toys and medals are already available in the United Kingdom, allowing fans to summon various Yo-Kai characters. The collectable medals featuring a Yo-Kai can be inserted into the watch. Users can then hear the name of the character, the tribe song and more sounds. The toys can also be paired with the video game to unlock more characters and content for added fun.
Polygon noted that Dianyan is among the several riffs on Jibanyan, the mascot character in the series. The new version feature a combination of the ghost cat with a diamond. There are also many bejeweled re-skins, with each being represented on the medals that go with the toy. Aside from their uses with the Yo-Kai Watch, the medals can also be incorporated with the Yo-Kai Watch toy by Hasbro.
Several Yo-Kai Watch toys are already available on the Hasbro website, such as Yo-Kai Watch Season 1 Watch ($19.99), the Yo-Kai Watch Series 1 Mystery Bags ($2.99), the Yo-Kai Watch Medal Moments characters ($4.99 each), the Converting Butler Suit Whisper ($14.99), Converting Komasan and plush toys. More of these are expected to be present at San Diego Comic-Con 2016.
Pascal Bonnet, executive director of films/TV sales in licensing at Viz Media EMEA, said that the release of the Hasbro Yo-Kai Watch toy line allows fans in the U.K. to experience the full breadth of the Yo-Kai Watch phenomenon. He continued that the Hasbro toy range is a great play prospect on its own.
When paired with the Nintendo 3DS video game, the brand fully bursts into life. The new line of toys is expected to further push the brand into other parts of the globe, particularly in the United States, as intended by Japanese game developer Level-5.
