The highly anticipated 2017 reboot "Spider-Man: Homecoming" has added another face to the roster of actors that will make up the third iteration of the film series featuring Tom Holland as Peter Parker himself. Variety exclusively reports that comedian Hannibal Buress has been recruited to play a yet unknown role in the film, which will be produced by Kevin Feige.
Television fans may recognize Buress as Lincoln Rice in Comedy Central's "Broad City," where he plays a pediatric dentist who is dating Ilana Glazer's character. The 33-year old actor is also set to appear in upcoming films "The Masterpiece" with James and Dave Franco, Seth Rogen, and Josh Hutcherson, and the highly anticipated "Baywatch," which features Dwayne "The Rock" Johnson and Zac Efron. Buress is also featured as the voice behind Buddy the dachshund in the upcoming Universal Pictures animated comedy, "The Secret Life of Pets."
According to Entertainment Weekly, Sony and Marvel's joint project "Spider-man: Homecoming" has begun filming in Atlanta, with Jon Watts as director. The story is written by John Francis Daley and Jonathan Goldstein.
Marisa Tomei was previously confirmed to play Aunt May, while Michael Keaton is stepping into the shoes of a yet-unnamed villain. Robert Downey Jr. is also set to reprise his iconic role as Iron Man.
Holland's Spider-Man made a debut in this year's "Captain America: Civil War," where he was recruited by Tony Stark himself. Fans may get to see how his relationship with Iron Man develops in Spider-Man's upcoming standalone film.
Meanwhile, Holland seems to fit right into the Marvel family as the 20 year old was recently spotted with "Guardians of the Galaxy" director James Gunn and Star Lord himself, Chris Pratt, on set. Gunn shared a photo of himself with Pratt and Holland, and wrote about how proud he was to be "[passing] on the Marvel baton" to the Spider-man star." "Guardians of the Galaxy" had just finished filming in Atlanta as well.
"Spider-man: Homecoming" is set to hit theaters this July 7, 2017.
