Derrick Rose may have finally found a team that actually wants him with word that the New York Knicks are said to be interested in the former NBA Most Valuable Player.
The report comes from Ian Begley of ESPN who bared that new head coach Jeff Hornacek and general manager Steve Mills are seriously looking at their options of having a legitimate and reliable point guard.
Though these were reportedly internally discussed, it does address a previous concern on how the Chicago Bulls could trade off Rose who is in the final year of his 5-year deal. This was touched in a previous post where the Bulls’ future plans were tied up.
Knicks willing to take high risk move on D-Rose
One thing that critics have singled out is the durability of Derrick Rose. His knees are questionable and his list of injuries are well documented. One going for him is that he is only 27, meaning he could still recover and finish his NBA career on a high note.
But will Hornacek and Mills be willing to absorb that hefty $21.3 million paycheck for the 2016-17 NBA season?
Injury aside, Rose could be a perfect fit to the expected run and gun style of Hornacek. Imagine D-Rose playing the open court alongside Carmelo Anthony and the Knicks could be pretty dangerous.
On half court sets, Rose could help free up Anthony and Kristaps Porzingis with his penetration and kick out passes. All these are promising only if Rose is able to stay away from injuries.
Chicago Bulls biting?
The Chicago Bulls may have finally gotten the answer to that issue on where to trade Rose with the alleged interest by the Knicks. While all that could be relieving, it will still depend on what the Bulls get in return.
Rose’s contract will be expiring this coming season so that could be a point for consideration per Basketball Insiders. But knowing that the Bulls are openly trading Rose, could the Knicks end up low-balling Chicago?
