The Force truly is with Star Wars gamers, as EA has shown no less than three new games set in the Star Wars franchise, to be released through 2018. At EA's "Play" event set alongside E3, several studios under the gigantic publisher showed off footage from various upcoming projects, in the form of a behind-the-scenes montage that showed the developers at work alongside some early footage.
"Star Wars: Battlefront 2" was noted first. Having been first announced back in May, the sequel to last year's successful multiplayer shooter is set for release in 2017, and is a joint effort by DICE and Motive Studios, a company founded by former Ubisoft producer Jade Raymond. The game will feature settings and characters that span the main films, as well as from the new Anthology episodes such as the upcoming December 2016 film "Rogue One: A Star Wars Story." A VR-exclusive mission is also in the works by Criterion Games of Burnout and Need for Speed fame.
Also previewed was the upcoming game by "Titanfall" developers Respawn Entertainment, also previously announced last month. The developers are yet to reveal any gameplay footage or any other details about their game, other than the fact that it's a third-person adventure game that takes place in a "different era" of Star Wars.
Another project is an action/adventure game by Dead Space devs Visceral Games, who showed off a short but stunning snippet of early in-game footage from their new third-person Star Wars adventure game, due for release in 2018. The project is being helmed by former Uncharted creative director Amy Hennig, and is being co-written by her and Todd Stashwick. Jade Raymond is also onboard along with Motive Studios, who will be working alongside Visceral on the game.
These new game previews come alongside announcements for EA's existing games. Star Wars: Battlefront's Bespin DLC was announced just yesterday, while expansions for Star Wars: The Old Republic and additional content for the mobile game "Star Wars: Galaxy of Heroes" are also in the works.
