The Samsung Galaxy S8 could be just another smartphone yet to be seen, but it's certainly getting high expectations given the things we find in the latest S7 models. Looking back at previous S-lineup launches, the next flagship could be greeting us the earliest in February 2017, though determining the schedule of the next Mobile World Congress will help.
There is hype over the arrival of the Galaxy S8, and one reason for this is the possible inclusion of Snapdragon X16, dubbed as an "important milestone" in network speed progress. This is Qualcomm's latest modem built on a 14nm manufacturing process, supporting "fibre-like" LTE Category 16 download speeds, Trusted Reviews notes.
What does this mean for S8 prospects? If the modem indeed shows up on the new smartphone, expect download speeds far superior than that of its predecessor. As told by Pocketnow, whatever processor gets paired with the modem will find itself inside smartphones capable of 1Gbps downloads and 150Mbps uploads. For instance, a 4K movie with a size of over 100GB may be downloaded in less than 15 minutes.
The Galaxy S8 is also expected to be aesthetically-pleasing on the outside. A new concept render from Steel Drake knows exactly how to pull futuristic, showcasing ultra-thin top and bottom bezels, a built-in projector, wireless charging and flexible OLED display in full glory. The design looks "more sci-fi than reality," TechnoBuffalo says, but still fun to imagine.
In terms of display, the next S handset is pegged to adopt the long-awaited 4K technology. This, of course, is already existent in Sony's Xperia Z5 Premium, but Samsung has confirmed that it is working on such feature, Digital Spy writes.
Touted to sell around $699, the Galaxy S8 is also allegedly sporting Snapdragon 830 and/or Exynos 9000, 6GB of RAM, up to 256GB internal storage, a 5.5-inch screen, 3,400mAh battery, Type-C USB port and iris scanner, MOBIpicker reports.
