'Dark Souls III' News & Update: Now The Highest Selling Game For Bandai Namco, 3 Million Copies Already Sold

Bucking a general decline in gaming industry sales, "Dark Souls III" led a pack of few games which resisted the downturn in April. Bandai Namco reports that "Dark Souls 3" broke company records becoming the fastest selling game in the publisher's table.

Japanese game maker Bandai Namco recently announced that "Dark Souls III" already sold 3 million copies since its launch early this year, reports Shack News. The North American region lead in sales with around 1.5 copies of the game already sold. This is followed by the European market where 1 million copies of "Dark Souls 3" was sold and the Asian and Japan market where the game's sales figure is 500,000.

"Dark Souls III" first debuted in Japan last March 24 this year but was only initially available only for Xbox one and Playstation 4. However, the game already has a PC version when it was released worldwide last April 12.

The whole 'Dark Soul' series is also one of the most successful in the gaming industry. Bandai Namco reports that total shipments for the series reached 13 million copies, according to GearNuke.

This is a very spectacular sales performance indeed considering the contraction of the gaming industry for the same period. Gaming related sales for April show a sharp decline with records showing that it shrank 15 percent compared to previous year's April sales, reports Venture Beat.

Among the gaming industry segment, hardware experienced the sharpest decline in sales. April 2016 figure stands at $142.1 million, a 23 percent decline from the $183.7 million it posted for April 2015. This downturn is attributed to decreasing sales in consoles which declined 19 percent ($30.4 million) and portables which saw a $11.3 million drop compared to April last year.

Software sales also declined when compared to year-ago levels. Total software sold is only $203.9 million or a 21 percent decline from the $256.7 million sales a year ago. Only accessories managed to post a positive growth rate with a recorded $157.6 million sales, a decent 4 percent rise over last year's $157.6 million for the same period.
