It was reported earlier that the PlayStation 4 is currently using an old and outdated hardware, but Sony was quick to react on the issue and is now working in a major systems upgrade which they coined Kenshin.
According to a blog post by Sony, Kenshin will feature additions such as an increased storage capacity for PS Plus members, from 1GB to 10GB. In addition, the new feature will also rock a meter in order to help the member monitor storage usage.
Also, a new events hub will premiere which will help the PS Plus members stay well informed of an upcoming activity or activities such as Double XP weekend and updates on special enemies that will be appearing. The events hub will also send notifications at the time of the event.
The Kenshin update is also geared towards social media as it will also feature a friends app which will let the members organize a friends list into a group, which makes accessing friends or a certain friend easier. On top of that, the new friend app will also have the option to create or join a community based on interests, favorite games, or genres.
Message boards will also be in place to help members who are looking to join a particular party or games or organize a huge multiplayer raid. Since the friends app is leaning towards social media, it will also have a Now Playing/What's New features which will allow members to see their friend's progress or activities and will help the member decide or quickly join the game or party.
To add, the new feature will also allow the member to request screen sharing or jump to the PS store quickly to get whatever game their friends are playing (in case the member doesn't have that particular game) as well as allowing the members to request a particular friend to watch his game. Kenshin will also allow members to browse and watch live or recorded gameplay via YouTube and share videos through Twitter. The only downside on Twitter would be the duration of the video, since the social media website only allows a maximum of 10 secs, but the application will enable the members to cut the videos so it would fit the limitation set by Twitter.
At this point, Kenshin is on its beta stage and Sony is now allowing the community to get the beta version in order to see and check what tweaks and fixes they need to focus on before the final launch of the PlayStation 4. Sony has yet to announce the final release date of Kenshin but experts are eyeing a formal launch before the year ends, or earlier next year.
