Virtual reality will unquestionably be the future of gaming, with the Oculus Rift, HTC Vive and Sony's Project Morpheus all competing for a slice of the profits.
Whether it will be an honest to goodness unrest or an insignificant blip on a few people's radar, is still a subject of open deliberation. However, it's reasonable to assume that the VR market is going to see some huge changes within the next six months.
That being said, let us look into the three competitors and see who amongst them will be the front runner of the industry.
HTC's Vive will be the first on the scene, with an estimated release window around mid-October. After that, there are the customer adaptations of the Oculus Rift and Project Morpheus.
Both are approximately booked to make their first appearance in the first half of 2016. Oculus might simply pip Sony to the post. Be that as it may, as tech gossips suggests that Project Morpheus could be launched as late as Q2, while the Oculus Rift is still on track for Q1.
For those who are looking to buy, the Oculus Rift is, at present, the only available product in the market for now. Also, early adopters can buy the second wind of the Oculus Rift improvement pack, known as the DK2, for a staggering price of $350.
At this point, Oculus Rift is the only company to offer a price. HTC Vive promises to release the gadget at a more affordable price which is somewhere around $470. Prices might still be subject to change to compete with the other competitors, price wise.
The clear dark horse in the price department would be Sony's Project Morpheus. Although there were no clear indications on how low the Morpheus will go for, experts are speculating that it would be around $315, but the gadget will need Sony's PlayStation 4 as a pre-requisite.
At this point, the virtual reality arena is just a drop in the vast ocean and it needs a ton of investment, both time and money, to finally penetrate and out-muscle the current gaming industry. The project may be very ambitious and difficult at the same time, but it looks promising and might truly be the future of the business.
