Fans of survival titles, but not fans of mobile games, are in luck today with Atypical Games' release of Radiation Island onto the Mac App Store.
CastleStorm: Free To Siege Adds iOS And Android Multiplayer Update
When the fabled Philadelphia Experiment goes horribly wrong, players are transported to a quasi-post-apocalyptic island filled with strange creatures - radioactive zombies, mostly and the occasional crocodile - and must fight and survive any way they can in a vast open world.
The game features a full day/night cycle, pitting you against not only the undead but the bitterness of uncivilized cold and darkness as you hunt for tools to craft to better your chances. Completing the campaign unlocks the multiplayer mode, which puts you on the island with other players all fighting for the same resource. Only there, at the end of the world, will you find out what you are truly willing to do to survive.
Mario Kart 8's New 200cc Mode Is Both Fast And Furious
The game supports iCloud, meaning you can save your game on one device and continue it on another. Never have to be without it.
A niche kind of survival game has cropped up recently. Gone are the days of the bullish, horror-filled escapades of Resident Evil; there's almost a depression to games like Don't Starve, DayZ and now, Radiation Island. They aren't just about surviving the forces of the undead or even, at times, other humans, but about the loss of civilization. Where do you go when the starting line has been erased?
You can find out on Radiation Island, which is available for both iOS and on the Mac Store for $2.99.
