Man, game devs, why do you have to play us like this? Can you at least be lame about your April Fools' shenanigans and give us a good, playful ribbing without actually making us think, 'Man! That would be awesome.'
Blizzard's 2015 Slate Of April Fools' Shenanigans Is Wonderful
Case and point: Wargaming has just released a new "patch" for World of Tanks that puts players to the bottom of Casey Jones' locker in - wait for it - Waterworld of Tanks.
I mean, come on! How cool is that? Not only because Waterworld is a great movie (April Fools!) but a little levity couldn't hurt the grim seriousness and realism that WoT tries for.
For The Last Time: Club Nintendo Elite Status Rewards Announced
"Waterworld of Tanks gives you an authentic, fully-submerged WWII armored combat experience. A selection of underwater maps based on charted areas of the Pacific and Atlantic oceans, just as they looked at the time, will challenge teams to coordinate and execute their own art of war under the sea. Simply select the appropriate vehicle in your Garage and enter a Random battle to get started."
They have a new continent, Atlantis, new battlegrounds new maps, never before played in World of Tanks, such as Coral Reef, Shipwreck Cove, Trench, Lost City of Atlantis, Cthulhu's Lair, Seaweed Forest, and Krusty Krab. Read up on its development on the Reddit AMA. They even have Clam Wars!
Or, if underwater battle isn't your thing, how about the 'we're honestly not sure if this is actually a joke' addition to the beta of Blitzkrieg 3: Wojtek, the Polish WWII soldier bear! "Appearing as an actual in-game character, the Syrian brown bear named Wojtek will be a soldier of the 22nd Transport Company of the 2nd Corps. In 1942, the real-life Wojtek was found in Iran as a bear cub by Polish soldiers of the 22nd Artillery Supply Company, adopted and was present in a number of theaters of war such as Monte Cassino where he helped move ammunition."
The bear even made it to the rank of Corporal, automatically making him more accomplished than I ever will be.
"It is not an easy task to faithfully represent a real war hero in a video game, especially one that is a bear. In order to reflect Wojtek's character truthfully, and to accurately recreate his mannerisms, our artists spent some time at Leningrad Zoo, closely observing and communicating with the local bears," said Maxim Predtechensky, Vice President of Nival.

Please, someone. Anyone. Make these all happen.
