There is a flute that is also a gun. I repeat, there is a goddamn gunflute in the trailer for Mission Impossible: Rogue Nation.
Dear God, This Archer Easter Egg Is Incredible
Tom Cruise and the most insecure intelligence agency in the world, IMF, is back with its latest bit of derring do and it knows how to announce itself. In addition to the aforementioned gunflutes, we get some excellent close-quarter action with a shirtless Cruise (who still looks good), a hopefully better motorcycle scene than the one in Mission Impossible II; and if you thought Cruise jumping off the Burj Khalifa was impressive, how about him grabbing onto the side of a plane as it's taking off?
Because that's totally Tom Cruise hanging on the side. He might be in his 50s, but that doesn't stop him from behaving like a reckless maniac in his 20s. This right here is the reason this man is still one of the world's best stars.
Speaking Of Resurrected Franchises, The X-Files May Return
The film centers around the Syndicate, an even more secret spy agency in the world, a 'rogue nation'. The anti-IMF, as they call it. How secret? Well, do you want the polite answer, or the truth?
The series got a serious kickstart with Ghost Protocol, which is arguably the best of the film series. Rogue Nation hopes to one-up the action in the fourth film by reuniting Cruise with his Jack Reacher director, Christopher McQuarrie (the guy who wrote The Usual Suspects). As a quick aside, you all really need to see Jack Reacher if you haven't done so already. Cruise, Simon Pegg, Ving Rhames and Jeremy Renner all return (sadly, no Paula Patton) for another globe trotting, utterly ridiculous action adventure.
The movie was originally scheduled to be released in December but since there's another little movie you may or may not have heard of opening around the same time, Rogue Nation has been pushed up to July 31.
Check out the trailer below. Gunflute happens at around the 1:32 mark.
