Xbox 720, Kinect Leaked Specs Threaten Wii U Technology

An earlier leak of Microsoft's upcoming console, the Xbox 720, revealed specs and pricing based on a 56 page document.

The document was uploaded onto a website, Scribd, but has now been removed by Microsoft's law firm Covington & Burling LLP.  Initially considered as a hoax, the removal of Xbox 720's documents may ignited speculations that the noted specs are legitimate.

Based on the documentation, Microsoft's next-gen console will have augmented 30D reality glasses, Blu-Ray, and the next version of Kinect.  The console is listed to hit stores before the 2013 holidays.  Based on past reports, the latest leaked specs may look to be valid.

"I have been reporting on Microsoft for around 12 years now. That's not to say I know everything about Microsoft and its processes, but I have a fairly good idea of what is and isn't an internal doc usually after the first few pages," said Tom Warren, Sr. Editor at Verge in an interview with NeoGAF.

Other features include  Wi-Fi augmented reality glasses called Fortaleza.  The glasses have 4G network capabilities and games can be delivered via the Cloud "instantly and on any screen." Pricing for Xbox 720 starts at $299 for a Kinect 2 bundle pack and its marketing slogan is "All Your Entertainment. One Box."

Xbox 720's latest offering may be a threat for Nintendo's next-gen console the Wii U.  Nintendo unveiled its new generation touch pad powered Wii Console which is like a tablet designed device for controlling the games.  The Wii U controllers are considered cutting edge technology, but the Xbox's augmented glasses and new Kinect version can give Nintendo a run for its money.

Wii U Gamepad is a multi-faceted controller and supports touchscreen. The gamepad also included traditional game controller buttons and joysticks, Near Field Communication (NFC) reader and writer, and infrared controls for the TV and motion and gyroscope sensors.

The new Wii U Gamepad features a 6.2-inch touch-sensitive screen. The gamepad will also be compatible with the Wii remotes, nunchuks and the Wii balance board that are currently available in the market. The Wii U Gamepad plans to be launched during the holiday season.

Nintendo also introduces Wii U Pro Controller which also comes like an Xbox 360-style controller along with dual analog thumbsticks.

Other features that Nintendo plans to roll out includes its own online social network that integrates social features and enables players to build their own customizable Mii avatars. The TV screen will show games and applications and will allow players to create a "Miiverse" which will be a combination of Mii and universe. This will also allow the players friends to share their tips or their recent scores as they play the games.

As the two gaming powerhouses compete for living room entertainment across the globe, the technology in both consoles can be the determining factor.  Nintendo has confirmed its current technology while the gaming community awaits for Microsoft's.
