There may not be a confirmed release date for the Wii U, but at least we have a handy infographic for the tablet controller. Nintendo UK tweeted out the image about what to expect when we're expecting the Wii's successor, emphasizing the sexy black version over the white release.
Among other things, the brief run-down lays out what the Wii U can handle, from four controllers at once (including the Pro controller if you're transitioning from an Xbox) to being able to play video games just by sitting down. The minor surprises come with what's not shown: a stylus for the WiiU tablet and that it's rechargable--not to mention it's almost eleven inches wide. Which leaves us open to all sorts of double entendres, but let's explore the other question: is that too big for a comfortable gaming controller?
It's like taking an iPad and using that to play a game. It's sort of surprising no one brought this challenge up during E3, or else most journalists have abnormally large hands and expectations.
The other noticable quirk is how the Wii U is to be laid flat, instead of the traditional Wii's option to remain vertical. It's weird to remember that nearly ten years ago consoles gave us the option to be upright, from the Playstation 2's ability to shift the logo depending on the stance to the orignial Xbox 360 letting folks decide whether up or flat was the right way for them.
The next gen console wars have issues the first volley: consoles of the future must be flat and look vaguely like cheap DVD players!
