Samsung Galaxy S3 Woes: Apple Patent War, No 50GB Dropbox Promo

Samsung will look to deal with ongoing battles while its next-gen smartphone the Galaxy S3 awaits its U.S. market debut.

Apple's patent war with Samsung will look to halt Galaxy S3 sales in the U.S. along with other HTC Android devices.  Claims from Apple accuses Samsung of violating patents on the iPhone's Siri voice controlled technology  Samsung's S-Voice, infringed on Apple's version  along with automated detection, data, and hyperlinks.  Apple's battle with Samsung could  be part of a bigger war with Google and it's Android operating system.

The Samsung Galaxy S3's positive reviews and long customer waiting list has prompted the company to take action.

"Samsung believes Apple's request is without merit. We will vigorously oppose the request and demonstrate to the court that the Galaxy S3 is innovative and distinctive...We believe that Apple's actions would only serve to disrupt consumers' access to the latest innovative mobile technology," wrote Samsung in an official statement.

To add to Samsung's woes, the promised 50GB Dropbox promotion for customers fell through.  Originally, Samsung Galaxy S3 customers were offered a two year promotion with Dropbox's free online storage.  Due to a lack of participation from some carriers, the Galaxy S3 versions for AT&T and Verizon will not be available.  Dropbox provided the opportunity for carriers to opt-out of the deal.  Thus far AT&T and Verizon have dropped out, leaving the promotion solely for Sprint and T-Mobile.

Speculations are that Samsung's Galaxy S3 will become the fastest selling gadget, beating rival iPhone 4S. U.K carrier Vodafone has also claimed that the Galaxy S3 smartphone has received numerous pre-orders before its actual launch.

"When the phone arrives, it will instantly become the fastest selling gadget in history, beating out the iPhone 4S's four million units sold in three days. It also tops the first iPad's two million tablets in two months, and the Microsoft Kinect system - which allows you to wave at your television via the Xbox 360 games console - which shifted 2.5 million units in 25 days," reports Mail Online.

Samsung still has an uphill battle from here.  Customers are still expected to wait for the Galaxy S3 to hit U.S. stores, but how long can they hold out?
