A patch released shortly after the launch of Dying Light restricted players' abilty to mod the game, a move the community took as an intentional step by Techland to protect its game from user-created changes. The developers quickly explained that an unintended conflict with the patch accidentally limited modding, and that they would work to solve the issue.

All of that leads us to today's announcement of official, free modding tools for Dying Light. Techland released a statement saying that the game is ripe for modification as an open sandbox title, and its games (Call of Juarez 2 and Dead Island) have had strong mod support in the past. Players are encuraged to visit the Dying Light Mod Tools section of Techland's forums to share their thoughts.

Techland also plans to actively support the "coolest" mods created by players, not just passively let the community promote itself. The stuido is aware that a buzzing mod community and quality creations can easily help extend the life of a game, and are keen to help that happen. It's a far cry from the anti-player criticisms being thrown at the developer when it was believe the restrictions on mods were intentional, and a good reminder not to jump the gun.
