Nintendo eShop And Virtual Console Update: Metroid Prime Trilogy, Codename S.T.E.A.M. Demo, Animal Crossing And More

This Week's Nintendo eShop Update Brings Back One Of The All Time Greats, Metroid Prime Trilogy To Wii U, Codename S.T.E.A.M. Demo And Others

So here we are, the last Thursday of January. It's been a long, cold one around here, but the one thing that has kept us warm has been the weekly Nintendo eShop and Virtual Console update! Let's see what the House of Mario has for us this week.

Link Gets All Fierce (Deity) In Latest Japanese Hyrule Warriors Trailer

The big addition to the eShop comes as part of the Throwback series, which features games previously found on the original Wii. The week's entry is Metroid Prime Trilogy, itself an updated collection of the brilliant GameCube and Wii titles Metroid Prime, Metroid Prime II: Echoes and Metroid Prime III: Corruption. The collection is now on sale for 50% off for a limited time only. $9.99 until February 5

The anticipated Codename S.T.E.A.M. for 3DS has a new Demo version out today. The full turn-based title - developed by the same company that created the enduring Fire Emblem series - comes out March 13. Oh, it features you commanding a group of ragtag steampunk heroes, all under the auspices of the man, the myth, the President himself: Abraham Lincoln.

Gunman Clive 2, the western-esque platformer gets an even bigger sequel. Clive's latest adventure takes him around the world - a world filled with samurai, giant robots and dinosaurs. I kind of hope there's a samurai robot dinosaur in there, because what game couldn't use more of that? $2.99 for 3DS.

The week's Virtual Console for both Wii U and 3DS is the 1990 sci-fi action title Shadow of the Ninja. Originally released on the NES, the game is a fun sidescrolling romp through an America that has been taken over by the evil Emperor Garuda. Hey man, it was the nineties. Anything was possible in the nineties. Features two player co-op! $4.99 on each system.

In addition to Metroid Prime Trilogy, other games featured in this week's Throwback sale include the original Metroid, Super Mario Kart, Mario Kart 8, Mario Golf and Mario Golf World Tour.

Additionally, "Between Feb. 1 and Nov. 7, every two weeks Nintendo will release a new item that has only been available in the Japanese version of Animal Crossing: New Leaf. To get them, visit your nearest Nintendo Zone."

Also out this week on the eShop:

Frenchy Bird - yes, it is exactly what you imagine it is. But it's in 3D! On the Wii U for $1.99.
Rock 'N' Racing Off Road - not to be confused with Blizzard's Rock N' Roll Racing from the nineties, this racing game will get the whole family involved. Wii U for $5.99
Drop Zone - Under Fire - it's a sky-dive simulator with a first person perspective, which should be all you need to pick this one up. Pick up weapons and bonuses, and feel the thrill of blasting robot ships as you rush towards your jump target! 3DS for $4.99
Jewel Quest: The Sapphire Dragon - the sixth entry in the puzzle series. 3DS for $5.99
SUMICO - a similar offering to 2048, match bigger and bigger numbers. 3DS for $2.99

That's us for January! See you next week when we start getting into full on Zelda mode with the Hyrule Warriors Majora's Mask DLC!
