PAX South Preview: Exciting Lineup Revealed For This Weekend's Inaugural Convention

PAX South Is Coming In Fully Loaded With League Of Legends, Gearbox, Sid Meier And So Many Tournaments This Weekend

The inaugural PAX South is happening this weekend in San Antonio, and once again the boys from Penny Arcade are sparing no expense at bringing their gamer-first philosophy to yet another city.

Resident Evil Remastered: Nice And Polished, But Hardly A Remake

It being the first of its kind, there's no telling what to expect in terms of big announcements. But we can at least guess at where those announcements might occur, as well as offer up some interesting panels you could attend should you find yourself in Texas this weekend.

They always say to lead with your star witness, so taking that philosophy, we'll start off this list with the biggest of the big: League of Legends. Riot Games will be in attendance on Saturday, January 24 at the Main Stage at 4:30 p.m. and they will presumably talk about all their other titles. Just kidding, they've only made the one. The panel roster has not been announced, but here's hoping something good and juicy arrives.

The End Will Come In San Antonio, So Talk About It With The DayZ Team At PAX

On Friday at the Main Stage, the NVIDIA panel will be showing off not only the latest innovations, they'll even be showcasing some exciting announcements.4:30 p.m.

Gearbox, developers of Borderlands and the upcoming Battleborn, will be on hand all weekend at various panels. They even have a theater named after them, so I think they were obligated to show up. On Sunday at 10:30 a.m. devs will be on hand for the Inside Gearbox Software panel on the Main Stage, where they promise "never-before-seen reveals, exclusives and surprises." I do hope it's a fancy Claptrap robot for everyone!

They'll be talking Battleborn specifically on Sunday at 1:30 and will include "looks at concept art, characters, and more." And Borderlands will get the BTS treatment at 5 p.m. where the team will discuss the past, present and future of the series. Again, holding out for some robot action.

Firaxis, the company behind the long running Civilization series, will be on hand with the man, the myth and the legend himself Sid Meier to discuss all things turn based strategy at the Firaxis MegaPanel on Saturday at 11 a.m.

These are just some of the potential news outlets. We haven't even touched on this year's Omegathon, the epic gaming tournament that pits competitors against a multitude of titles; or even the regular tournaments, such as Mario Kart 8, Magic, Tetris, Katamari, Ticket To Ride, Super Smash Bros and even the best basketball game ever, NBA Jam.

Gambitious, in association with Devolver Digital, will be debuting two of their new titles: Magnetic: Cage Closed, and tactical zombie thriller, Breach & Clear: DEADline. Head over to booth 1243. Breach & Clear: DEADline, the top down sequel, hits Early Access soon with a full release later this Spring. Magnetic: Cage Closed, a game set in ever-changing prison with chambers that shift in random patterns, and magnetic guns. Set to launch this Spring as well.

To say nothing of the massive amount of independent tabletop games coming to the convention. Like The Shadow Over Westminster, a co-operative deck building game heavily influenced by Lovecraft. Or the charming sounding Bring Your Own Book, in which you scour a book to takes quote wildly out of context in a more literary Cards Against Humanity.

PAX South begins this Friday, January 23 at 10 a.m. Follow along with any breaking news on Twitter.
