Harmonix has sent out a survey to members of its Rock Band mailing list that clearly shows that they're thinking of releasing Rock Band 4, if they aren't deep in development already. What's more- it seems like they're looking to bring it to next-gen platforms.
First New Rock Band 3 DLC In Two Years Releases
This isn't the first time they've done this, either. Way back in July of 2014 they sent out a similar survey to gauge interest in a new title. This time however, the questions are much more specific.
The surves ask you to rate features for a game from Most Important to Least, across everything from in-game events and a campaign mode to character customization and pro instruments. The survey asks which next-gen consoles you own, and how many functional instruments you still have somewhere in your house, perhaps lying dusty in a closet like mine. It ask how many DLC songs you have purchased and how much you played each title.
Most telling, it asks if you would be inclined to preorder a new Rock Band title, what conditions would you do so (if it only came with bonus songs, in-game content, etc.), and how you would want the game presented to you- downloadable title, retail, or what have you.
So yes, it's fairly obvious that besides Amplitude in the works for PS3/PS4 (which sadly has just been delayed till this Summer), Harmonix is working on a Rock Band follow-up.
Could they get away with making it a smaller downloadable title, or would they need to make a bundle that included instruments? These are no doubt questions Harmonix is pondering- after all, so many of us have purchased so many plastic instruments over the years, but who knows how many people held on to them and have them in working condition.
For that matter, what would a downloadable title need to add to garner interest? The only place that Rock Band had left to go was to add real instruments, something Rocksmith has done in the years since.
Regardless, no one makes music-based games like Harmonix and we can't wait to hear what they have up their sleeves. We'll let you know when we hear official word one way or the other.
For now, you can fill the survey out for yourself right here.
