There are only so many ways to thoroughly depress yourself in 11bit studio’s stellar This War Of Mine. However, those looking for a little dose of crippling reality, the development team has released a new update which will allow for greater customization and therefore, a greater diversity of in-game experiences.

For all the choices This War Of Mine gives you, some of the most crucial elements that will impact gameplay are completely out of your control. The new update will allow players to choose their three starting characters, a mechanic players had been calling for since the game’s release last month. To access the character selection screen, you must first play the game to completion (note: not ‘victory’) to unlock it.
Players will also have a chance to start the game in a new shelter. A change of scenery is always appreciated, in game and in life. The update also includes improved animations and NPC behaviors. All the better to decide to kill you so I can live.
Life Is Strange, Time Bending Narrative Game Gets A Release Date In January
This War Of Mine takes place in a nameless city in the throes of a vicious war. Players do not assume control of an elite soldier, space marine, or other typical ‘heroic’ character that populates a good chunk of video games. Instead, you take on the role of a group of civilians who are just trying to survive the storm. The game is a tough and morally brutal experience that is wonderful and thought-provoking. Those seeking a cheap thrill should look elsewhere.
