Total War Mobile And PC Game Battles Kingdom Announced: Free To Play Cross-Platform Title Improves On Battles Shogun, Looks Great

If The Creative Assembly's consistent updates on Total War: Attila were not enough for you, how about the announcement of a new title? The developer today revealed Total War Battles: Kingdom, a free to play, cross-platform PC, Mac, and mobile game.

The announcement trailer, below, shows off an attractive persistent world that can be played across mobile devices and your computer. Battles: Kingdom is the follow up to the first mobile title, the well-received Battles: Shogun, which launched in 2012.

The game is quite different from the traditional Total War experience found in the main games, as it's partially created to suit mobile platforms. Battles: Kingdom is a clear visual step up over Battles: Shogun, as you can see in the footage. It's no longer just a horizontal, simplistic-looking game, but boasts some impressive landscapes and a new battle perspective. The game has switched to an online server-based experience, allowing you to jump between platforms and maintain a consistent game world.

You can create your own kingdom with much more freedom than before, placing cities and terraforming the land to suit your desires. The game takes place in England, at the start of the 10th century. The battles are more of a rock-paper-scissors of unit types than the traditional experience (in which that system is an element, but not the basis of each battle) and you'll have to choose wisely.
