Many Xbox One owners who had bought their console early were pleasantly surprised today to find an Xbox Live message that said they would be getting a free copy of the macabre indie hit Limbo, especially since the Xbox One version hadn't been officially announced yet.

The message was reported over at Game Informer, and many users over in this Reddit thread (thanks, VG247) have reported getting the message as well. The message is being sent to users all over the world, so this promo isn't restricted to just North American players.
If you bought your Xbox One early but still haven't received the message, sit tight. The messages seem to be staggered a bit, with some users getting the notice later than others. As of now, it's not too clear whether the game is being given to every early adopter or just a lucky few as part of Microsoft's Year One celebration, even though Limbo isn't mentioned on the Year One news post.

While some users are looking forward to being treated to a game that they may not have had the chance to pick up before, others (like many of the posters on the related NeoGAF thread) aren't too keen on getting nothing more than an indie game from 2010 that has already been out for the Xbox 360. Still, a free game is a free game, and it'll be a shiny new port to boot.
For those who haven't played Limbo yet, it'll be a great way to try out one of the most highly regarded indie games out there. For those who have played, they can still enjoy the rest of the bonuses Microsoft is handing out in honor of the console's first birthday.
