Evolve's big alpha has been over for about two weeks now, and as it turns out, the long weekend provided developer Turtle Rock with some interesting gameplay stats.
Meet Abe, Evolve's Third And Final Trapper
The developer shared some of the more useful stats in an infographic posted to the game's blog (thanks, Game Informer). In the post, you can see that more than 1.3 million rounds of Evolve were played over the six-day alpha. The game also had quite the showing on Twitch, with more than 7 million total views happening over the course of the alpha, totaling more than 2 million hours watched.
By the end of the alpha, Hunter teams were overall more successful than Monster players, coming away with 57 percent of the wins. Considering the game's inherent asymmetrical gameplay, though, it's impressive nonetheless that the game seems to be as balanced as it is. It could also be a matter of Monster gameplay being more difficult to pick up than the standard FPS gameplay of Hunters. Hunters, then, might just have an edge when the game is played by new players, which everyone is at this point.
Meet Cabot, The Evolve Support Class With A Devastating Rail Gun
The classes that alpha participants chose were also fairly balanced. Out of five possible classes – Assault, Trapper, Medic, Support and Monster – the most played was the damage-dealing Assault class, but it was only chosen 23 percent of the time, not a huge difference over the least picked class. That honor goes to the Support class, but it still was chosen by alpha testers 16 percent of the time.
The Evolve Big Alpha opened up for Xbox One players on Thursday, October 30, with PC players getting access the next day. PlayStation 4 players didn't get in until November 2 because of problems with the system's 2.0 update that went out around that time. The alpha was extended until November 4 to accommodate them.
Evolve will launch for PlayStation 4, Xbox One and PC on February 10.
