Super Smash Bros For Wii U News: Classic Mode Different From 3DS Version, Pick Which Fighters You Face With Trophies

Super Smash Bros Wii U will be largely similar to the 3DS version in terms of gameplay, characters, and stages, but there are notable differences between the two as well.

Halo 2 Anniversary Cinematic Launch Trailer Looks Fantastic, Reminds You Why The Game Was Great

The 3DS version had been the focus of most reveals leading up to its launch--the largest info dump for the Wii U edition was delivered recently in a livestream. The reveals included the board game-style Smash Tour: World Smash, eight player battles, playable Mewtwo, and more.

Destiny DLC Release Date: The Dark Below Raises Level Cap, Brings New Raid, Gear And Story Missions

In a new post on the Miiverse forums, series director Masahiro Sakurai showed off the Wii U version's Classic mode, which you may have assumed would be the same across both titles. The way you select battles is different, however, as you can see in the image above. Here's his description:

"Classic mode in the Wii U version is set up like a battle coliseum with multiple fighters teamed up with each other. Move your trophy and join in anywhere you want. You can see faint images of stages on the platform--the number of fighters clustered on those images indicates the number of fighters you'll face. As you can see, this feature leverages the fact that the game supports multiplayer with up to eight players."

Details large and small will continue to pour forth until the November 21 release date, though the info will likely trend towards the latter. We've seen most if not all of the Wii U version's game modes and major unique features at this point. As cool as the eight player battles, Smash Tour, future Mewtwo and the rest are, that's likely the end of big feature announcements, unless Nintendo has another surprise up its sleeve.
