Assassin's Creed Rogue Gameplay Video Gives Fans A Look At New York City Map, Narrower Streets Make For Easier Freerunning

Assassin's Creed Rogue's New York City Looks Much Easier To Navigate Than AC3's

A newly posted gameplay video for Assassin's Creed Rogue shows protagonist Shay Cormac running around the game's New York City setting, letting series fans see how the map differs from the version in Assassin's Creed III.

The video itself (found on the Assassin's Creed subreddit) isn't particularly great quality. The dialogue is all in French and it was recorded entirely in unremarkable 240p. But it still gives a decent look at the game's depiction of lower Manhattan, and it even pauses for a minute to show off the in-game map.

Because Assassin's Creed III also took place partially in New York, it's interesting to see how the two maps differ. The biggest change that can be seen from the video is that Shay's New York seems to come with much narrower streets. Though it might give the game a more cramped feeling at first, this likely will be much better for one of the main aspects of Assassin's Creed games: rooftop freerunning.

One of the shortcomings of Assassin's Creed III was that the streets of Boston and New York were often too wide to be able to cross streets while remaining safely on the rooftops. With narrower streets in Rogue, players should be able to run from roof to roof in the same way Ezio was able to do in Renaissance Italy. Ultimately, this design choice should make traversal much quicker in Rogue.

To see for yourself, check out the video below. As a small bonus, you'll also get to see Shay demonstrate his brutal fighting style, causing streams of blood to fly out of his enemies as he hacks and slashes with his dual-wielded dagger and sword.

Assassin's Creed Rogue will release for PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360 on November 11. It'll come to PCs early next year.
