An alleged iPhone 6 "prototype" is up for auction on eBay with the current highest bid approaching $90,000.

According to the seller, she was accidentally sent this abnormal iPhone 6 model after renewing her Verizon contract. The smartphone doesn't have the usual iOS 8 installed, instead running some kind of developer operating system. Further, the back of the phone's case isn't engraved with any of the FCC markings you'd usually find, and the phone's Lightning port is ringed with red material.
As commenters on Reddit were quick to point out, the model is likely not a true prototype of the iPhone 6 as the listing claims. Seeing as how the phone itself seems to be a finished product that looks identical to a regular consumer iPhone 6, this model is more than likely just a factory test model that never had iOS installed and was never meant for shipping. It's still an interesting find and a curiosity for the buyer who received it instead of a shelf model, but it's probably not as rare as the seller thinks or as valuable as the $80,000 bids suggest.

By now, the eBay auction is probably at that point that all viral eBay auctions reach where most, if not all, of the highest bids are fake. It's impossible to tell how long ago a sincere bidder last made an offer, but it's hard to believe that a buyer is actually interested in an $80,000 iPhone 6 test model.
The phone itself is a 64 GB model and seems to be functional considering its lack of iOS 8. According to the seller, the phone will be recognized when plugged into iTunes.
