The Emperor Edition of Total War: Rome II--available to purchase for new players and as a free update to current owners--is out now on PC and Mac.

The definitive edition of the strategy title rolls out a plethora of gameplay updates and fixes alongside the new Imperator Campaign. The update will be downloaded for free to existing owners of Rome II, and can be purchased by those interested for $59.95 on Steam or the SEGA store.

The Imperator Augustus campaign is a new sandbox campaign map reflecting the geopolitical boundaries of the Second Triumvirate War. It should offer "hundreds" of hours of gameplay according to the developers, though that more than likely represents multiple playthroughs--still a valid claim, given the differing experiences trying out multiple factions can provide. The campaign map can be seen here.

The map is mostly the same as the original geographically, but new factions are vying for control. The competing powers in this campaign are Octavian, Antony, Dacia, Pompey, Marcomanni, Iceni, Lepidus, Egypt, Parthia, and Armenia

All of the past features and improvements that were made to the original version of Rome II are part of Emperor Edition. In addition to the new campaign, these include an improved politics system, overhauled building chains, rebalanced battles, and improved visuals on both the campaign map and in battles. Other features that were updated into the game through past patches include Twitch integration, touch controls, new units, and many gameplay and optimization fixes--all part of Emperor Edition on both PC and Mac.
